The National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria (NAFN) has said that the 9th National Agric Show will be anchored on attracting more youths to embrace agriculture, to enhance the nation`s food security.
The National Coordinator of the foundation, Mr Samuel Negedu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the National Agricultural Show Ground, Km 28, Abuja-Keffi Road, Tudun Wada, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Negedu noted that many youths who had excelled in either livestock or crop production had yet to be celebrated.
He said the organisers of the Agric Show would use the occasion to bring out these youths for recognition.
“This year’s Agric Show is about walking the talk.
“We have talked so much about the engagement of youths in agriculture and the theme for this year`s show is: `Engaging the Nigerian Youth in Agriculture’.
“There shall be a special youth programme on Wednesday, April 6, and the beauty of this year`s show is that it is going to be dominated by the youths.
“We are going to have youths who have succeeded in their various entrepreneurial engagements which will be used to encourage other youths to engage in the sector.”
Negedu said there would be a youth group which would embark on a one-km road walk to drive home their challenges in agricultural production and to tell government and the Nigerian people their needs.
The coordinator explained that the show would create a platform for youths to share their experiences, interact and build networks that would further develop the sector.
NAN reports that the National Agric Show is an annual exhibition organised by the foundation to create a platform for farmers across the country to display their produce and present their challenges.
The 9th National Agric Show will commence on Tuesday and end on Thursday.
