Bayelsa Rice Farmers Want Buhari to Make Agric Priority

Bayelsa Governor, H.E Seriake Dickson
Bayelsa State chapter of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) has urged the President-elect, retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to make agriculture one of his priorities.
State Chairman of the association, Mr Ezekiel Ogbianko, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa that agriculture was a key to economic growth.
According to Ogbianko, investing in agriculture will go a long way to enhance economic development.
"Insufficient funding, low input supply and lack of modern farming tools are some of the challenges in the business of agriculture.
"We want the incoming government to work more in the sector; the importance of agriculture should not be neglected in growing the economy.
"While we are congratulating Buhari on his victory as the incoming president of the county, we, however, urge him to make agriculture more attractive to the youth.
"Youths are still seeing agriculture as old people's job because the sector is still underdeveloped in terms of modern farming.
"The sector should be seen as the most important aspect in nation building because farming can as well support the fight against unemployment," he said.
According to him, Nigeria can diversify its economy through agriculture by making it an alternative means of economic growth.
