The Kano State Government has approved N1 billion as soft loans to rice farmers’ association to boost rice production in the state.
The state commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, Muhammad Garba, said this at a news briefing at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Kano on Thursday.
Mr. Garba said the council also approved N100 million to wheat farmers’ association to procure improved seeds and equipment to boost their yield.
“This loan will not only boost production but also bring about effective and efficient rice production, thereby increasing the production of rice in the state,” he said.
He said the state government had approved over N600 million for the procurement of 40 trucks to Refuse Management and Sanitation Board, REMASAB, in the state.
He said the trucks would help in the evacuation of the heaps of refuse in the metropolis.
“The council also approved N74.3 million for the procurement and installation of four raw water pumps with starters at Chalawa Dam,” he said.
The commissioner expressed the government’s determination to develop infrastructure in the state as part of the welfare initiatives to for the people.
